Is Apple more expensive?

Inspired by Thom’s comment on a previous post, and pissed off that people are keep on calling apple purchasers ‘stupid’ for buying overpriced hardware I thought I would do a quick comparision of US laptops.
A IBM Thinkpad T60 vs a similar configured MacBookPro and a Dell E1705
OK first some disclaimers.. the Thinkpad is a 14.1” screen, and I couldn’t configure the it, and the Dell had a 17” screen
Configuration:| Item | T60 | Macbook Pro | Dell |
|---|---|---|---|
| Processor | 1.83 intel duo | same | same (although I could go faster) |
| Memory | 512m | 1G | 1G |
| Screen Size | 14.1” | 15” | 17” |
| Resolution | 1024×768 | 1400×900 | 1200×800 or 1440×900 (for $112 more) |
| Hard Drive | 60G | 100G | 80G |
| Basic Cost | $2,049 | $2,400 | $2014 |
| Cost with 2g+100G 7200RPM drive and nice 1440×900 resolution | couldn’t be done | $2,899 | $2,650 |
yes.. Apple is still a bit more expensive. I’d say about $700 worth, basing that on the difference of $500 for a 15”/17” powerbook display size.
Two of the best things about thinkpads are a) their weight (although the T-series is the heavy-end, T60 is 5lbs/2.3KG) and their battery life… it’d be interesting to throw those into the comparison.
Apple’s Weight is 5.6lb’s about the same as the T60.
Dell’s is 7.4lbs.. pretty hefty.
as for battery life.. I don’t know, but I would be interested in finding out
apple old powerbooks are spec’d @5hours (and the 15” is also 5.6lbs)
