Is your boss working to outsource his own job?
All too often we hear about IT being a cost center, and how our IT should be cheaper.
They point at google, or try to benchmark themselves against 'best practices' and try to emulate them.
In my experience what this usually end up as is:

Cost vs flexibility
If you could get a server for 50% less, but it took you 8 weeks (instead of 5) to get installed and running would you buy it? So Google's Summer of code has drawn to a close, the 4 students I have beeen mentoring have produced their code, and it is starting to appear in The HTTPD Repo.
